Household Chores

"Pears of Promise" graphite on paper
by Cristina Querrer

dirty dishes frozen
in last night's ecstasy
reminds me of
years we try
to recover from
yesterday's scraps

clothes sprawled
on the floor
intertwined &
twisted are we

spurs catching
our ankles
irritating us again
forest or jungles
no matter which
the snarl

returning scrapes
fill our days in
such scarcity of
softness in
abundance of

detergent & deceit
stained shirts
trapped lint
losing socks & sleep

infinite imbroglios
dreaming of dirges
gathering the bills
his passwords
to the past
recessing & recoiling
